RACE HAS A FACE

Race has a face
That is rising
Up from the depths 
Of its inner blood ocean
Where grief churns
And burns from untold stories.

Rage now has a social media stage
Of voices and faces 
Evidence to digest
Against those trained 
To dehumanize another
Moment to moment
We choose to choke
Or blow more smoke
Or step forward broke
Knowing what is right
Down deep in the trenches
Of our human knowing
Hearing those who live to tell
Or breathe his very last breath,
Not in vain. We heard you, Eric.


Generation to generation
Truth and reconciliation
Something has begun
In the streets of our cities
Where riots are sprouting
A new frame to vindicate the aching Bones of those whose sweat was salt 
To be sold off into modernity
Disguised by sweet sentiments cloaked 
In shame and political correctness
Where apologies and new systems 
Of stories need to be shared and
Witnessed by all of us.
