A midwife doesn’t deliver the baby. She creates the conditions for the birth to happen.
A Media Midwife does the same thing with your story. She doesn’t write it for you, perform it for you, or hand you a framework and call it yours. She sits with you in the generative dark - the place where what you know and what you’ve lived and what you’ve never quite been able to say all exist together, tangled and alive - and she listens until the shape of it becomes clear. Then she helps you bring it through.
Where This Role Came From
Ahri didn’t invent the title Media Midwife. She became it - through twenty years of making work that was always, at its core, about accompanying others through threshold.
She birthed her own children at home. Wore them. Nursed them. Watched the body know things the mind takes years to understand. She made documentary after documentary - about birth, about grief, about the 2016 election, about a pandemic - not because these were interesting subjects but because they were her life, and her life kept insisting on being made into something.
The daily practice of mothering - the fierce attention, the deep listening, the willingness to be present to what is actually happening rather than what you wish were happening - turned out to be the same set of skills required to midwife someone else’s story into existence. That recognition became The Story Womb.
What a Media Midwife Actually Does
She asks the questions no one else thinks to ask. She hears what you’re reaching toward before you can say it. She holds the thread when you lose it, and names the pattern when you’re too close to see it.
She brings twenty years of award-winning sonic craft - Golden Reel Award, NPR national distribution, Top 20 Experimental Podcasts - to the work of shaping your story into something that moves people. Not just informs them. Moves them.
And she brings something harder to credential: the embodied knowledge of what it means to follow the wound all the way to its source, and make something true from what you find there.
The Story Womb
The Story Womb is the space where this work happens. Brave, gestational, entirely unhurried. It begins with HONE - the excavation and shaping of your source stories - and can grow into a full Podcast Series Creation or Sonic Legacy, depending on what your work requires.
What it always produces: a woman who understands, perhaps for the first time, that her most complex and difficult stories are not liabilities to manage. They are the source material for everything she is here to make.
